Over at Yahoo! Finance, a very good analysis of Railway budget figures of earning abd expenditure:
1. Railway earns 65 paise of each rupee from freight, and 25 paise from passenger traffic.
2. On expenditure side, it spends 33 paise on current employees and 17 paise on pensioners, thus 50% of total expenditure is on staff, that increases roughly by 20% every year.
One third of total staff costs is on pensioners.
